Numerical Evaluation of a Concentrated-Winding Variable Flux Memory Motor with a Hybrid Magnet Arrangement

This paper presents a novel variable flux memory motor (VFMM) with series–parallel configuration that employs constant-magnetization permanent magnet (CPM) high coercivity and variable-magnetization (VPM) low coercivity. The CPMs in the proposed VFMM are arranged parallel. Therefore, they share an air gap. Meanwhile, VPMs series respect to CPMs, as well each other. CPM-induced magnetic field not only reduces re-magnetizing current for but also enhances torque density. Additionally, it can assist resisting demagnetization under loaded conditions. For verification, we compared performance of model series-type widely applied VFMMs. magnetization characteristics were investigated using nonlinear finite element analysis by deriving VPM load line. Furthermore, electromagnetic re-magnetization conditions was analyzed.
